"A Hundred Thousand Welcomes"

Springtime has arrived here south of the Broad River in Beaufort County. At least the birds and the flowers have it right. The weatherman has not quite made up his mind yet. The last two months were very busy here. The division held a celebration honoring the memory of Bishop Patrick Lynch on the 150th anniversary of his installation as the Third Bishop of the Charleston diocese on March 14th. The division rented two buses and traveled to Charleston to the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist. Upon arrival we were taken on a tour of the recently renovated cathedral. Following that a solemn high mass was celebrated by Monsignor Laughlin, the diocesan administrator in the memory of Bishop Patrick Lynch. Following the mass we marched en masse to the crypt on the first floor where the deceased bishops of Charleston are buried and prayed for the repose of their souls. A check for $1,000 was presented to the cathedral parish toward the renovations. Then we proceeded to the 82 Queen restaurant for a spectacular luncheon. All in all it was a great day for the AOH in Charleston.

On March 27th our Shamrock degree traveled to Statesboro, Ga. WE had been invited to confer the degree on the new division at Georgia Southern University. The Bishop of Savannah and National President Jack Meehan were in attendance. It was a great honor for the division to participate in the installation of this new division. The average age of the members in the new division was 22.

At the April meeting the division voted to spend funds on several projects. On project provided $850 for tuition funding for three students in a missionary school in Uganda, Africa. The other project provided $750 for movable bookcases at St. Francis of the Sea school on Hilton Head Island.

Last week the division held it’s annual Leprechaun Open Golf and Dinner at Sea Pines Country Club. Ray Dowling our Catholic Action Chairman was the medallist with a 83 Gross score. The buffet dinner was quite good and good time was had by all.
